South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday announced amendments to the lockdown Alert Level 1 amid the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
South Africa has been in lockdown since March 2020. Lockdown regulations, aimed at containing the virus range from Level 5 to Level 1.
Level 5 was South Africa’s most restrictive lockdown level with the strictest movement regulations.
Level 1 has been the most relaxed lockdown level and government continues to relax the regulations as the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths decreases.
The amended lockdown Level 1 regulations allow for international travel under strict regulations. Regulations relating to the sale of alcohol have also been relaxed.
